Geneva – Sudanhorizon

On Monday, the Sudanese Minister of Interior, Major General Khalil Pasha Sayreen, and Marta Costanzo, Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees, and Migration at the US State Department, met in Geneva, the Swiss capital, on the sidelines of the meetings of the Executive Committee of the Commissioner’s work program.

The Minister expressed the Sudanese government’s appreciation to the US administration for being the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Sudan in general and in response to the crisis in Sudan. He also welcomed the additional support announced by the United States, which allocated about $424 million in additional humanitarian aid to those affected in Sudan and neighbouring countries hosting Sudanese refugees.

The Minister also welcomed the US President’s decision to waive some of the sanctions that the US had imposed on Sudan. This would allow the country to receive US development assistance and benefit from the USAID Global Health Care Program.

He said Sudan would look forward to the US Administration taking further measures that would allow the country to benefit from all the development aid provided by the United States. He stressed Sudan’s urgent need in light of the war imposed by the rebel militia on the Sudanese people.

For her part, Marta expressed her country’s deep concern and regret over the development of the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
The US official reaffirmed her country’s unwavering commitment to providing every possible assistance to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and refugees. She also welcomed the government’s decision to open the Adre crossing and expressed her country’s hope for a renewal of the period of permission to use the crossing.

The Minister of Interior reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitment to facilitate the delivery of aid to all affected citizens throughout the country, including areas under the control of the rebel militia.

Both parties underscored the importance of close coordination to ensure the smooth and rapid delivery of humanitarian aid to all affected people in the country. This commitment aims to reassure the audience about the efficiency of the aid delivery process.
