US House Committee Intends Designating the RSF Militias a Terrorist Group
Sudanhorizon – Agencies
The US House Foreign Affairs Committee intends to pass a bill on Sudan today (Tuesday) recommending that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias be designated a terrorist group and that sanctions be imposed on its leaders and their families.
The bill requires the administration to identify individuals and entities involved in genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Sudan, as well as those obstructing humanitarian aid. It also demands that the administration present a clear strategy for Sudan.
For over two years, lobbying groups and public relations firms in the United States, working on behalf of the United Arab Emirates, have been working to prevent the RSF from being designated a terrorist organization, despite countless reports from media outlets and international organizations confirming war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the RSF. This is due to the exposed close relationship between the RSF and the UAE, despite the UAE’s continued denials of this relationship.
It is worth noting that last February, the United States imposed financial sanctions on three leaders of the Rapid Support Forces, due to their involvement in the 18-month siege of El Fasher and its fall in October, last year.
