Urgent Humanitarian Aid from Israel to South Sudan

Sudanhorizon – Agencies
The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday announced provision of urgent humanitarian aid to South Sudan.
It explained that in light of the severe humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, and under the supervision of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the Israeli National Aid Agency (MASHAV), affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will provide urgent humanitarian aid to vulnerable groups in South Sudan.
It added that South Sudan was currently experiencing a cholera outbreak and faces a severe shortage of resources. It said the aid will include essential medical supplies to treat patients, water purification equipment, gloves and masks, as well as special hygiene kits to prevent cholera.
Food packages will also be distributed as part of the aid operation, and MASHAV will cooperate with IsraAID, an Israeli NGO active in the country.
It noted that Sa’ar recently hosted South Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Monday Semaia Kumba, in Jerusalem, where they discussed the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, which is being exacerbated by the influx of refugees fleeing the war in neighbouring Sudan.
A report by the Jerusalem Post has recently revealed that Israel is holding talks with South Sudan on plans to resettle Gaza residents. The newspaper added that the deal between South Sudan and Israel could help the two countries build closer relations.
