The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced on Sunday that it had succeeded in delivering supplies to South Kordofan for the first time since October 2024.

In a statement, the organization said the aid would cover the needs of more than 120,000 of the most vulnerable people in the towns of Dilling and Kadugli.

It described the arrival of these supplies as a vital achievement for thousands of children and families cut off for over nine months due to the conflict.

South Kordofan is home to more than 63,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition, including over 10,000 facing severe acute malnutrition—the deadliest form.

The convoy carried 6,300 cartons of ready-to-use therapeutic food, enough to cover the targeted areas’ needs for more than six months.

The assistance also included water and sanitation supplies such as pumps and generators to ensure access to clean water, along with essential education and health provisions.

The supplies will support health facilities, schools, and communities struggling to cope with the protracted crisis in a state where more than 70% of water and sanitation infrastructure is damaged and urgently needs repair.

UNICEF’s Representative in Sudan, Sheldon Yett, said, “This convoy is a lifeline for children in South Kordofan who have endured hunger, fear, and uncertainty for far too long.”

He added, “This shows that with humanitarian access, we can deliver hope and tangible relief to children in desperate need. But one convoy is not enough. Without sustained humanitarian access, many children simply will not survive.”
