UNFPA Allocates $47 Million for Sudan

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has revealed that the total funding allocated for Sudan in the year 2025 amounts to approximately $47 million, while the expected funding for the 2026–2028 period is around $75 million.

During a meeting on Tuesday at the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Bashar, Undersecretary for Planning, met with Bruno Husquin, Deputy Country Director of UNFPA, and affirmed the government’s strong commitment to the health sector as a top priority and a foundation for human development. He highlighted the vital role UNFPA plays in supporting priority sectors.

Dr. Bashar also emphasized the importance of coordination with UN agencies in implementing funding for regional and international institutions, and in enhancing opportunities to benefit from direct cash assistance programs provided by organizations such as the World Food Programme (WFP).

For her part, Ikhlas Mohamed Ali, Director General of External Financing at the Ministry of Finance, stated that the Ministry acts as the government’s general coordinator with all UN agencies and organizations in managing and monitoring the implementation of country-level programs in coordination with relevant technical bodies.

Bruno Husquin, Deputy Country Director of UNFPA, noted that the Fund’s strategic partners in Sudan include federal and state governments as well as local civil society organizations. He presented a visual briefing on the Fund’s programs implemented in Sudan during 2024, which focused on local community priorities, including capacity building in the health sector, raising public awareness, and providing healthcare services to conflict-affected areas through mobile clinics powered by solar energy. These clinics deliver emergency treatment and primary healthcare services to mothers and newborns.

He also confirmed the continued support of UNFPA through its permanent offices in the states of Port Sudan, Gedaref, Kassala, and River Nile, in addition to its support to the Darfur states via neighboring Chad.
