The United Nations has welcomed directives issued by the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to open more airports, which will enable UN organizations to transport humanitarian aid to various regions of Sudan and reach those affected.
Tom Fischer, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator in Sudan, stated on his official account on Platform X that the UN welcomes General Al-Burhan’s announcement following a meeting held during his reception of UN representatives on Sunday in Port Sudan. Fischer described the discussions during the meeting as “fruitful, comprehensive, and constructive.”
According to the UN official, “Additional humanitarian flights and centres will allow us to deliver more support to Sudanese people.”
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council announced that, in line with the government’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, all relevant UN agencies would be permitted to establish supply hubs in Al-Obeid, Kadugli, and Al-Damazin.
Al-Burhan directed that UN personnel be authorized to accompany convoys, oversee aid distribution, and return immediately upon completing their tasks in these areas.
