The Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations in Sudan, Sheldon Yett, informed the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the UN will remain in the country, and its various agencies will continue carrying out their duties and will not leave, contrary to what some news sites have reported.
During his meeting on Wednesday in Port Sudan with Ambassador Idris Ismail, the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN official said that the organisations are in Sudan to serve civilians and will not abandon them while they are in need of services.
The Acting Undersecretary briefed the UN official on the latest developments in the country, including details about the aggression Sudan is facing, particularly the recent attacks on vital sites in Port Sudan.
The undersecretary told the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) that he had assured the UN official that the situation was under control and that Port Sudan Airport had resumed operations.
