UN Secretary-General’s Envoy and Political Leaders Discusses External Intervention

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The UN Secretary-General’s envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, discussed their request for external intervention to monitor the ceasefire in Sudan with political leaders and civil society organizations.
A source familiar with the matter told the “Sudanhorizon” news website that Lamamra met last week with representatives of political and civil forces, who urged the UN to activate its laws, institutions, and mechanisms to hold both warring parties accountable.
The source added that Madani Abbas, Juma Kinda, Abdel Majid Haroun, Salah Al-Amin, Nour Al-Din Sati, Adeeb Youssef, and Misbah Awafi, among others, participated in the meeting. The meeting focused on the request for external intervention to enforce and monitor the ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
The source also noted that growing international calls for a ceasefire agreement during the month of Ramadan—as referenced by the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council in his recent meeting with political and societal forces—align with this context.
The source did not rule out the possibility that the UN Secretary-General’s envoy is seeking to secure a foothold for these political leaders and civil society representatives through a roadmap to overcome the country’s political crisis.
