UN Secretary General Comments on Appointment of PM in Sudan

The Spokesman for the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Stephen Dujarric, said that the Secretary -General took note of the decree issued on May 19 by the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council in Sudan, according to which Dr. Kamel Al -Tayeb Idris was appointed as Prime Minister.
He added that the Secretary -General hopes that this appointment will represent a first step towards comprehensive consultations aimed at forming a widespread technocratic government and achieving peace.
He stresses the need to give priority to the efforts of national consensus, and that these efforts lead to tangible progress that benefits all the Sudanese people, including silencing the voice of weapons, providing basic services to all the population, and laying the foundations for a common vision for the future of Sudan.
The Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, met in Baghdad, on the sidelines of his participation in the regular Arab Summit (34) with both the Secretary -General of the League of Arab States and the head of the African Union Commission, and the three of them discussed the situation in Sudan.
Guterres also met with the head of the Sudan delegation participating in the Arab Summit, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jabir.
