The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning confirmed on Sunday that the amount of funding granted by the African Development Bank for ongoing projects in Sudan is estimated at around USD 420 million.
Mohamed Bashar, Undersecretary for Planning at the Ministry of Finance, revealed—during his meeting with the Bank’s delegation at the ministry—that there is ongoing dialogue between the Bank and the government regarding new projects to be financed through a new grant exceeding USD 200 million, based on the priorities of the current phase.
Bashar emphasized the government’s interest in essential services, food security, infrastructure, capacity-building for national cadres, and all productive projects that ensure the sustainability of peace and contribute to development.
He explained that the mentioned funding consists of grants from the Bank’s Sixteenth Grant Program, describing the Bank as one of the key partners in the development sector.
For his part, the Bank’s Country Director for Sudan, David Mutoko, affirmed Sudan’s priority within the financing available to member states.
He explained that the delegation’s visit to the country aims to assess the progress of ongoing projects and explore opportunities to implement new grant-funded projects in coordination with the government and partners.
The Regional Director for East Africa, Alexander Daniel, also affirmed the Bank’s commitment to meeting the country’s current needs after the delegation conducted a field visit to examine the real impact of the war in Sudan.
