Massad Boulos, Advisor to the US President on Arab and African Affairs, has said his country welcome of the successful delivery of lifesaving aid—including the first shipment of over 1.3 metric tons of food, water purification supplies, and basic healthcare supplies—to El Fasher (Wednesday) since its siege 18 months ago.

Boulos said in a tweet in his account in X platform that this was achieved thanks to months of negotiations facilitated by the United States regarding the delivery of humanitarian aid. He added, this achievement, which follows a UN assessment mission in late December, reflects the continued efforts of the United States, in close coordination with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and humanitarian partners.

Boulos noted that civilians in El Fasher suffered for months under siege with the interruption of humanitarian aid access. He stressed the critical importance of unimpeded aid flowing “not only to El Fasher, where the situation remains catastrophic, but throughout Sudan.”

Boulos has reaffirmed that while his country presses the warring parties for a comprehensive humanitarian ceasefire, it will continue to support mechanisms that facilitate the unimpeded delivery of aid to areas suffering from famine, malnutrition, and conflict-induced displacement.

He added, “We call on the international community to increase its contributions to support the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and humanitarian partners in Sudan.”
