U.S. Envoy to Sudan: Al-Burhan’s Decisions Are Positive
Sudanhorizon – Agencies
The U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, described the Sudanese government’s decision to allow UN agencies to transport food to various regions and oversee the distribution of humanitarian aid as a positive step.
Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, had instructed the opening of three main airports for UN relief flights and authorized UN staff and international organizations to travel and supervise the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Perriello noted that the U.S. government welcomes the Sudanese Sovereignty Council’s announcement to establish humanitarian hubs for the UN in Al-Obeid, Kadugli, and Al-Damazin, enabling UN staff to lead key response efforts across Sudan.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, the U.S. envoy highlighted the importance of this decision, coupled with the announcement of regular humanitarian flights to additional areas in Sudan. He urged all authorities and humanitarian partners to swiftly implement key famine prevention and response activities, particularly in severely affected regions such as Khartoum (central Sudan), Zalingei (western Sudan), and Sennar (southeastern Sudan).
Perriello emphasized:
“Let us turn these positive decisions into tangible outcomes for people in every corner of Sudan.”
