Two Fighter Jets Shot Down Over Iran in One Day

The Iranian air defenses have shot down two American fighter jets, Friday, one in western Iran and the other over the Strait of Hormuz.

The New York Times reported earlier that an American A-10 fighter jet was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz, and its pilot was rescued. Axios, citing sources, reported Friday evening that the two American pilots whose aircraft was shot down in western Iran ejected safely after their jet was hit by Iranian fire.

Earlier, the Iranian Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Headquarters announced the downing of an advanced American F-35 fifth-generation fighter jet in central Iran.

A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated that a U.S. F-35 advanced fifth-generation fighter jet was targeted for the second time in central Iran by a modern air defense system belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force.

The spokesperson added that the aircraft was part of the Lakenheath squadron when it was hit and crashed.

Axios reported that U.S. special forces located and rescued one of the pilots alive inside Iranian territory.

Meanwhile, the Iranian news agency Mehr reported Friday evening that a U.S. helicopter was hit by an Iranian projectile during search operations for the two pilots whose F-35 fighter jet was shot down Friday morning in central Iran.

Iran is also conducting an extensive search for the two crew members and has asked civilians in the area to participate in the search efforts.
