Istanbul – Sudanhorizon
Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Sudan in all areas related to maritime safety, training, transport and communications, construction, roads, and bridges, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral partnership in the infrastructure sector.
The remarks came during a meeting between Turkish Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu and his Sudanese counterpart, Saif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani Haroun, on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference on Transport and Communications of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Istanbul from February 11–12, 2026, under the theme: “Enhancing Transport and Connectivity to Strengthen Brotherhood among OIC Member States.”
Minister Haroun informed his Turkish counterpart that life is gradually returning to normal in Khartoum and expressed Sudan’s desire to benefit from Türkiye’s experience in ship management, as well as training opportunities and capacity building in the maritime and transport sectors.
The Sudanese minister also held several meetings with companies specialized in port management and operations, maritime logistics, and airport construction.
In a recorded message to conference participants, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that reducing the impact of geographical distances between member states requires strengthening strategic connectivity and joint initiatives, given their growing importance to the global economy, trade routes, production networks, and development within the organization. He stressed that development, competitiveness, and regional integration depend on effective, reliable, and integrated transport systems.
The conference unanimously adopted a resolution to enhance cooperation among OIC member states in the transport and communications sector. Several member states also welcomed an initiative to establish a specialized OIC-affiliated institution to be hosted by Türkiye under the name “Land Transport Center.”
Sudan’s delegation to the conference included, alongside the minister, Mr. Jilani Mohamed Jilani, Director General of the Sea Ports Corporation, and Ambassador Osama Mahjoub, Sudan’s Consul General in Istanbul.
