Tripartite Message from Brussels: Israel’s Recognition of “Somaliland” Violates Sovereignty

Brussels –Sudanhorizon
The African Union, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in a joint letter to the European Union, condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, describing the Israeli move as a “a blatant violation of international law that undermines Somalia’s sovereignty and threatens stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.”

In a strongly worded letter, the three organizations urged the European Union to “exert unified diplomatic pressure on Tel Aviv to reverse this step,” and warned that silence or ambiguity in taking a clear stance would undermine international norms and encourage further regional destabilization.

The letter, signed by Yaqoub Ali Mahmoud, representative of the African Union in Brussels, Abdul Khaliq Ali Yaqal, representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Jawad Qadim Al-Shalhoui, representative of the Arab League, expressed the conviction of the three organizations that the European Union would act on this issue based on its principles, ideals, legal obligations, and higher interests, in support of stability in the region, the Middle East, and Africa, in its rejection of this step.
