The Sudanese Football Association Says why Sudan Could Not Clash with Argentina

The Sudanese Football Association (SFA) has rejected accusations that the national team players had rebelled over outstanding financial dues. The Association clarified that the players had received 80 percent of their dues, with the remainder scheduled for payment.
In a lengthy statement issued Monday, the Association said that its board of directors is “committed to paying the players and the technical and administrative staff their dues in appreciation of their efforts in qualifying for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) despite the circumstances in Sudan.” The statement also praised the significant support provided by the state at its highest levels, represented by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who offered the national team players the greatest incentive in the history of Sudanese football.
The statement added, “What has been reported in the media linking the withdrawal from the match against Argentina during the current March international break to these outstanding dues is incorrect. Throughout their time with the national team, the players have never behaved in this manner, nor have they rebelled against the team, always understanding the Association’s circumstances.”
The statement indicated that the national teams committee refused to face Argentina for technical reasons and had informed the national team’s technical director, Kwesi Appiah, of several considerations, including exploring new players, to decline playing the match with Argentina.
