The Democratic Bloc Denounces International Silence Regarding the RSF Siege of Cities

Cairo – Sudanhorizon
The Freedom and Change Coalition-Democratic Bloc – has condemned the international silence in face of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the cities of Al Fashir, Kadugli, Dilling, and Babanusa.
These cities are subject to a protracted siege by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which is preventing humanitarian assistance from reaching civilians, and exacerbating the humanitarian situation.
In a statement following a meeting held on Saturday, chaired by Jaafar al-Mirghani, the coalition called for more decisive measures to lift the siege and impose sanctions on the Rapid Support Forces militia and its allies.
The meeting discussed humanitarian and political issues in Sudan and listened to reports from specialized committees.
The bloc commended the statement of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, which affirmed its support for Sudan’s unity and its categorical rejection of the so-called “parallel government” announced by the militia and its allies.
It urged the African Union to take punitive measures against member states that support the militia, a clear violation of the founding charter of the African Union. The bloc believed that the roadmap proposed by the United Nations and the Arab League and included in the African Union statement, which proposes confining the Rapid Support Forces militia to its base in Darfur, would threaten Sudan’s unity. It called for a comprehensive solution and roadmap to be designed based on the principles of preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, preserving its national sovereignty, recognizing its legitimate institutions, dismantling the Rapid Support Forces militia, integrating all armies into the Sudanese Armed Forces, and achieving a democratic civilian transition through a Sudanese dialogue in which all Sudanese participate, leading to a just and sustainable peace.
The bloc emphasized the need for major decisions in the country to be made in consultation with national forces, and warned of the dangers of passing amendments to the constitutional document without consulting national political forces. It argued this would harm the national interest, it also called for the immediate formation of transitional institutions, most notably the Legislative Council, to oversee the government and enact democratic transition laws.
