Sudan’s UN Representative: The Shortest Path to Ending the War is Halting UAE Support for the Militia

New York – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Harith Idris, stated on Thursday that the quickest way to end the war in Sudan is to stop the UAE’s generous support for the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
Ambassador Harith, commenting on the UAE representative’s intervention during yesterday’s UN Security Council session, said, “The UAE is condemned; it is the one spilling Sudanese blood and killing them to control Sudan’s wealth.”
The UN Security Council held a session on Thursday to review the periodic report of the Expert Committee monitoring arms flows to Darfur under Resolution 1591. Speakers at the session also addressed the humanitarian situation in Sudan due to the ongoing war.
During his intervention at the session, Ambassador Harith stated that the war would stop when the UAE stopped fueling it. He added, “We possess all the documents and have submitted a 74-page complaint to the Security Council to substantiate our claims,” explicitly accusing the UAE of “playing a destructive and evil role. If the UAE’s role in supporting the RSF militia does not cease, the suffering will continue.”
Sudan’s representative called on the UN Security Council to explicitly name the UAE instead of referring to external elements, stressing that “your Council must name the UAE instead of speaking about external interference. The only external element interfering in this war is the UAE.”
