Sudanese PM: Security, Political, and Economic Agreements with Eritrea

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

Sudanese Prime Minister Kamal Idris announced on Friday that he had reached agreements with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to activate the political committee between the two countries and establish a new economic committee to oversee and implement all joint projects, in addition to enhancing security coordination and intelligence cooperation.

Prime Minister Idris concluded a two-day official visit to Asmara, marking his fourth foreign tour since his appointment as Prime Minister on May 19.

Speaking to the press in Port Sudan upon his return, Idris described the visit as “historic and fruitful.” He said the talks with President Afwerki were held in a positive and supportive atmosphere, reflecting the depth of bilateral relations between the two nations.

“We expressed our sincere gratitude to Eritrea—its leadership, government, and people—for their substantial support to Sudan during these exceptional circumstances, and for their generous hospitality to Sudanese citizens residing in Eritrea, who have been treated with great respect and care,” he added.

The Prime Minister noted that both sides agreed on the importance of continued coordination in all regional and international forums, as well as on efforts to facilitate Sudan’s return to the African Union.

As part of strengthening bilateral cooperation, Idris revealed that the two countries agreed to launch several joint projects, including the establishment of major fisheries on the Red Sea, gold and oil refineries, and investment ventures in the mining sector.

He affirmed that coordination between Sudan and Eritrea will continue across all fields to achieve mutual interests, adding that he also met with members of the Sudanese community in Asmara, listened to their insights and challenges, and promised to address their concerns.
