Sudanese PM Holds Talks with UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy

Sudanese Prime Minister Kamal Idris held talks today (Saturday) in Port Sudan with Ramtane Lamamra, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Sudan.

The two sides discussed the political, security, and humanitarian situation in the country following the events in El Fasher and the militia’s takeover of the city.

According to the Sudan News Agency, the UN envoy expressed the United Nations’ appreciation for Sudan, noting that the situation in the country is considered one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world.

For his part, the Prime Minister affirmed the Sudanese government’s readiness to work and coordinate with the United Nations and its agencies to achieve security and peace in the country, in addition to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need.

Idris also briefed the UN envoy on the political and security situation in the country, emphasizing the government’s commitment to cooperating with international organizations based on the roadmap prepared by the government.
