The Sudanese government welcomed the statement the African Union Peace and Security Council issued on Monday, praising its “positive directions and constructive proposals.”

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs agreed with the priorities outlined by the Council, particularly the full implementation of the Jeddah Declaration, the evacuation of civilians from their homes, facilitating humanitarian aid, and the Council’s call for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to lift the siege on El Fasher immediately. The statement also appreciated the Council’s condemnation of the atrocities committed by the RSF against civilians.

The government acknowledged the Council’s welcome of Sudan’s roadmap for resolving the crisis and its decision to continue and enhance the African Union’s positive engagement with Sudan, including reopening its office in Port Sudan.

The statement also praised the Council’s call for all African Union institutions to increase aid to Sudan.

The Sudanese government reaffirmed its full commitment to constructive engagement with the African Union, the continent’s mother organisation, recognising Sudan’s role as one of the founders and pioneers of African joint efforts. The government also expressed gratitude to the members of the Peace and Security Council for their visit to Sudan on the 3rd of this month, noting the positive outcomes of this direct and transparent communication between the continental organisation and its member states, in line with the principle of “African solutions to African problems.”
