Sudanese Government Rejects U.S. Sanctions on Al-Burhan

The Sudanese government has rejected and condemned the sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department on General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
In a statement reviewed by Sudanhorizon, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the decision as lacking the basic principles of justice and objectivity. The ministry argued that the sanctions were based on unfounded allegations disconnected from reality and displayed blatant disregard for the Sudanese people, who stand united behind General Al-Burhan as a symbol of sovereignty and a courageous leader in the battle for dignity against the terrorist Janjaweed gangs.
The statement further noted:
“It is perplexing that this dubious decision comes after the U.S. administration concluded that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are committing acts of genocide in Sudan. Thus, the American administration’s decision, made just days before the end of its tenure, to impose sanctions on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces defending the Sudanese people against a genocidal plot, reflects confusion and a lack of a sense of justice.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that claims of neutrality cannot justify the flawed decision, as it effectively amounts to supporting those responsible for genocide.
The statement emphasized that the immoral U.S. decision would not deter the Sudanese people in their struggle against the terrorist militia and would not weaken their resolve or unity. It concluded by affirming Sudan’s commitment to eradicating this “cancer” from its land, promising that Sudan would emerge stronger than before.
