Sudanese Foreign Ministry Strongly Criticizes UAE Statement on Turkish Mediation

On Saturday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly criticized a statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the Turkish initiative to mediate the conflict between Abu Dhabi and Khartoum.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry stated, “The UAE Foreign Ministry’s statement regarding what it called Turkish diplomatic efforts to resolve the Sudan crisis is nothing more than an attempt to evade the truth, which the entire world now recognizes: the UAE bears direct responsibility for the bloodshed in Sudan, the killings, displacements, and atrocities suffered by its people, and the destruction of its infrastructure and national institutions. This position is owed to the fact that the UAE is the sponsor of the Janjaweed terrorist militia responsible for committing these crimes.”
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs added in its statement that on the same day, the UAE released its statement, “the terrorist militia continued its shelling of displaced persons’ camps in El-Fasher and the only functioning hospital there, using long-range heavy artillery and strategic drones, both sourced from the UAE.”
The statement highlighted that the UAE’s involvement has been “documented with irrefutable evidence by global research centres and international investigative journalism and has become a topic of discussion in the U.S. Congress and other legislative bodies.” The ministry dismissed the UAE’s claims of working for peace in Sudan as “hollow and false, unable to stand against these undeniable facts.”
The statement also mocked what it described as “the condescension and insult to intelligence” in the UAE’s assertion that the Sudanese Armed Forces were “ignoring the suffering of the Sudanese people by not participating in the so-called Geneva talks.” The ministry stated, “The clearest indicator of these meetings’ lack of seriousness and futility was the UAE’s participation. It was no surprise that the militia escalated its massacres against civilians immediately after those meetings, as their sponsor was lauded as a peacemaker and received recognition and praise, emboldening it to continue its crimes.”
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Sudan’s welcome of Turkey’s willingness to mediate “stems from the fact that the UAE is a party to the aggression Sudan is facing, and any effort to convince it to cease its harm to Sudan and its people is deserving of encouragement and positive engagement, especially since Turkey is a trusted and respected partner to Sudan.”
The statement concluded with a direct demand: “What is required is for the UAE to stop supplying the militia with weapons and mercenaries and to instruct it to lay down its arms. Only then will peace be achieved.”
