The African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, stated that a meeting was held between him and a delegation from the Sudanese Embassy in Addis Ababa, headed by Ambassador Al-Zain Ibrahim.
In a tweet reviewed by the editor of the Sudanhorizon news website, Bankole mentioned that the meeting between him and Sudan’s representative to the African Union, Ambassador Al-Zain, focused on discussing the developments in Sudan and the importance of ending the war. The meeting also emphasized the need to continue such meetings. Bankole noted that the African Union is deeply involved in intensive efforts to stop the war, address the humanitarian situation, and facilitate political dialogue between the conflicting parties and political stakeholders.
According to sources from Sudanhorizon, the meeting between the delegation, headed by Sudan’s representative to the African Union, came immediately after the important visit of the African Union Peace and Security Council delegation to Port Sudan last week. During that visit, they met with the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and other senior state officials, where it was agreed to hold regular consultations between the embassy and the Peace and Security Commission at the African Union headquarters. Furthermore, the meeting aligns with the African Union’s positive engagement with Sudan through listening to the Sudanese delegation’s insights on the situation and consulting with them on Sudanese affairs and Sudan’s relationship with the African Union.
