Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa

The Sudanese Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Al-Ghazali Al-Tijani Siraj, confirmed that Foreign Minister Ali Youssef’s visit to Moscow on Tuesday was of great significance for both countries.

In an exclusive statement to the “Sudanhorizon” news website, Al-Tijani stated that the visit reflects the progress in bilateral relations, driven by mutual political will. He emphasized that the visit laid the groundwork for practical steps to enhance relations, including the resumption of the joint ministerial committee’s work in the near future. Additionally, understandings were reached regarding mutual support and coordination in international forums.

The Sudanese ambassador in Moscow clarified that the agreement on establishing a Russian military base on the Red Sea is the same previous agreement, officially termed the “Material and Logistical Support Point on the Red Sea.” He stated that the agreement remains in place and is viewed by both countries within the framework of their developing bilateral relations, considering that it is a mutual agreement that serves their shared interests in strengthening cooperation in this area.

Furthermore, Ambassador Al-Tijani highlighted Russia’s expressed interest in participating, through both government and private sectors, in Sudan’s reconstruction efforts following the widespread destruction of infrastructure caused by the systematic actions of the Al-Daglo militia, which he described as a terrorist group.

He noted that Russia possesses significant capabilities, while Sudan is rich in natural resources, expressing expectations of Russian contributions in key sectors such as energy, oil, and minerals. He added that government sector preparations have already begun, and the joint ministerial committee between the two countries will convene very soon in Port Sudan. The meeting will include major participation from leading government and private companies with significant expertise in these sectors.
