Sudan Welcomes International Efforts to End War but Rejects “Guardianship”

Khartoum, 13 September 2025 — The Sudanese government has said it welcomes regional and international efforts aimed at ending the ongoing war, lifting sieges on cities, and protecting urban infrastructure, but firmly rejected any interference that undermines the country’s sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the militia led by the Dagalo family of besieging cities, destroying infrastructure, and committing crimes against the Sudanese people. It vowed to resist any attempt to equate the “racist terrorist militia” — which it said was supported by foreign mercenaries — with the legitimate state.

The government stressed that any engagement by outside actors must be grounded in “clear respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, national legitimacy, and the authority of its state institutions.”

Khartoum also voiced frustration with what it described as the international community’s failure to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions 1591 and 2736, which call for ending the militia’s siege on El Fasher and allowing humanitarian convoys to reach civilians. It said elderly people, women, and children in the city continued to suffer as a result of the blockade.

The statement underlined that achieving peace in Sudan “is an exclusive responsibility of the Sudanese people,” adding that only Sudanese citizens can decide how the country is governed. It described the transitional government, led by a prime minister chosen through national consensus, as representing the people’s aspirations for stability.

The government reiterated that the transitional period would be guided by the Constitutional Document and emphasised Sudan’s sovereign right to manage its internal affairs without external “guardianship” from coalitions or foreign powers.
