Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Prime Minister Kamil Idris, accompanied by Minister of Energy Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, inaugurated the restart of the Soba and Bant substations in Khartoum State today.
This step comes as part of the Hope Government’s commitment to supporting reconstruction and recovery efforts across all vital sectors in the country.
Prime Minister Idris indicated that these actions confirm the Sudanese people’s ability to rebuild despite the devastation and systematic destruction caused by the war imposed on the country.
He emphasized the Hope Government’s support for the electricity sector due to its crucial role in driving the country’s economic development.
Idris stressed the importance of electricity and its role in driving all productive, service, and industrial sectors, as well as providing essential services to citizens.
For his part, Minister of Energy, Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, affirmed that the Ministry of Energy’s employees will spare no effort in rebuilding the electricity sector.
He pointed out that restarting the Banat and Soba power stations and connecting them to the national grid will contribute to improving the stability of the electricity supply throughout the country.
The Minister of Energy added that rebuilding and rehabilitating the electricity sector is extremely costly, especially given the extensive damage that affected all infrastructure. However, with the determination, will, and expertise of the engineers and workers in the electricity sector, Sudan can overcome the difficulties and the devastation that befell the sector.
The Minister added that any maintenance, rehabilitation, or reconstruction undertaken in the electricity sector—from generation and transmission to distribution and conversion—represents a significant leap forward and a genuine addition to the electricity system in its various components. He described the rehabilitation of Soba and Banat substations as a major achievement made possible by pure national will.
