Reuters: Trump Under Immense Pressure to End War with Iran
Sudanhorizon – Agencies
Reuters, citing informed US sources, revealed that President Donald Trump is under immense political pressure to end the ongoing war with Iran, which has become a heavy burden on the White House.
According to the report published by Reuters on Tuesday and reviewed by several media outlets, US intelligence agencies are currently analyzing potential Iranian reactions should Trump unilaterally declare “victory” and halt major military operations without a comprehensive agreement.
At the request of senior administration officials, intelligence agencies are reviewing these scenarios to understand the implications of Trump’s potential withdrawal from the conflict, at a time when his advisors are warning that continuation of war could lead to significant Republican losses in the midterm elections scheduled for November.
Sources indicate that intelligence agencies had already reached a preliminary assessment following the initial military campaign in February, arguing that if Trump declares victory and withdraws U.S. forces from the region, Iran is likely to view it as a victory. If he declares victory while maintaining a significant U.S. military presence in the region, Iran will view it as a negotiating tactic, not an end to the war.
These moves reflect a tacit acknowledgment of what a White House official described as “enormous” pressure on Trump to end the war. Polls indicate that the war is extremely unpopular with American voters. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that only 26% of respondents believed the military campaign was worth the cost, while just 25% said it made America safer.
Beyond the political burden, the White House faces immediate economic repercussions from the ongoing war. Diplomatic negotiations have yet to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, leading to higher global energy costs and increased fuel prices in the United States.
