Sudan Opens Reservoirs in Eastern Sudan to Drain Ethiopian Floodwaters

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The General Administration of Reservoirs at the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources announced the gradual opening of the gates of the Upper Atbara and Setit reservoirs, along with the Khashm Al-Girba reservoir, in eastern Sudan. The goal is to channel floodwaters coming from the Ethiopian highlands.
The Reservoirs Administration called on citizens residing in the areas behind the Upper Atbara, Setit, and Khashm al-Girba reservoirs to exercise caution and take the necessary measures to protect their lives and property, due to the expected rise in river levels behind the reservoirs, as far as the city of Atbara.
