Sudan Decides to Open Adre Border Crossing

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

The Sudanese Sovereignty Council decided to open the Adre border crossing with Chad for a period of (3) months.

A statement by the council following its regular meeting on Thursday, headed by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan said that the Humanitarian Action Commission was directed, in coordination with the National Humanitarian Aid Coordinator, and according to the known and agreed-upon controls, to open the crossing, to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to affected citizens.

The issue of opening the Adre crossing was one of the main points of contention between the Sudanese side and the United Nations organizations working in the humanitarian field, for fear that it would be used to bring in weapons and ammunition for the Rapid Support rebels.
