The Red Sea University in Port Sudan hosted the “Power of Culture for Peace” workshop on Sunday. The Federal Ministry of Culture and Information organized the event, which was sponsored by the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). Experts in peace, culture, humanities, and media participated.
Minister of Culture and Information Al-Eisair expressed Sudan’s willingness to collaborate with ALECSO to rebuild what was destroyed by the Rapid Support Forces militia. He stated, “The world has witnessed the imposed war on Sudan, introducing alien elements practising methods foreign to the Sudanese human composition.”
In his address to the workshop, the Undersecretary of Culture, Graham Abdel Qader, highlighted that the rebellion had targeted the destruction of media and cultural institutions to alter cultural reality and erode the national values of the Sudanese people. He emphasized the importance of cultural consensus in light of Sudan’s diversity.
ALECSO operates its “Culture for Peace” program in 12 Arab countries, including Sudan. It focuses on mechanisms that cultural stakeholders can employ to promote stability and peace.
Additionally, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) pledged support for the Sudanese government’s efforts in culture, heritage preservation, identity, and media development during a Sunday meeting with Minister Al-Eisair in Port Sudan.
UNESCO Director Ayman Badri noted that the organization’s vision aligned with that of the ministry. Both parties agreed to work together to advance culture and media, focusing on the cultural sector.
