The Sudanese Banks Union has urged the public and bank clients to deposit their 1,000, 500-pound, and other banknotes into their accounts at branches of various banks operating in all regions where they are active.
The Union announced special facilities for opening bank accounts and integrating banking applications to access various electronic payment services.
In a statement signed by its President, Abbas Abdullah Abbas, the Union highlighted that this is an excellent opportunity for individuals without bank accounts to open and benefit from their features. These include safe money storage, access to investment financing, and saving time and effort in transactions, including e-commerce.
The Union assured the public that Sudanese banks are committed to safeguarding deposits and facilitating new account holders’ access to their funds at any branch despite the country’s exceptional circumstances. Banks also remain operational in compliance with directives from the Central Bank of Sudan, aiming to contribute to rebuilding what the war has destroyed and achieving stability in the country.
Earlier this month, the Central Bank of Sudan issued a statement detailing the introduction of the new 1,000-pound banknote. The statement outlined the reasons for the issuance, the new currency’s specifications, security features, and guidance on public interaction with it. This initiative aims to protect the national currency, stabilize its exchange rate, and support overall economic stability.
