Sudan and Iran Sign an MoU to Enhance Economic Cooperation

Sudan and Iran signed in Port Sudan, on Thursday, a memorandum of understanding to enhance strategic cooperation and strengthen economic relations between the two countries. The Sudanese side was signed by the Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Bashar, while the Iranian side was signed by the Assistant Minister of Economy and Head of the Visiting Delegation, Abu Al-Fadl Kodi.

The memorandum of understanding included aspects of economic cooperation that were agreed upon in the productive sectors and the mining sector, in addition to increasing the volume of trade exchange and enhancing banking cooperation in a way that contributes to facilitating the procedures for economic cooperation and joint investment.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, said during his meeting with Mr. Abu Al-Fadl Kodi, Assistant Minister of Economy and Finance in Iran, following the signing ceremony, Sudan’s interest in Iran’s participation in pushing the state’s efforts to rebuild and recover the economy in the post-war period; pointing to the importance of direct investment in the agricultural sector, livestock and manufacturing in their fields, and developing inter-trade through the commodity exchange system between the two countries, while Kodi presented an Iranian proposal to form a Sudanese technical committee to prepare the requirements for bilateral cooperation in the field of productive sectors.

It is noteworthy that the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran is visiting the country during the period of the 11th to the 14th of February.
