Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa
The Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow, Mohamed Al-Ghazali Al-Tijani Siraj, stated that the Russian Federation has taken a historic stance supporting Sudan by using its veto in the UN Security Council against the British draft resolution on Sudan today (Monday).
In an exclusive statement to the Sudanhorizon news outlet, Al-Tijani described Russia’s bold and just position as significant. It was the first time a veto was used in a Security Council matter related to Sudan. He emphasized that this stance supports Sudan amid regional and international conspiracies targeting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ambassador asserted that Russia’s position exemplifies the principles of Russian foreign policy, which are based on equal sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and mutual benefits grounded in shared interests. He noted that if these principles were applied globally, they would eliminate numerous conflicts, polarizations, and tensions, providing a solid foundation for healthy regional and international relations that benefit humanity.
Ambassador Al-Tijani highlighted that Russia’s position stems from a correct understanding of the crisis in Sudan, which some parties seek to exploit to undermine the country’s unity and cohesion by imposing political and social agendas with ulterior motives. He pointed out that Russia supports Sudan’s legitimate state institutions, particularly the Sudanese Armed Forces, recognizing them to safeguard Sudan’s sovereignty and unity against any threats.
He added that Sudanese-Russian relations have remained firm and steadfast, built on friendship and cooperation. These ties have proven their sincerity and sustainability during Sudan’s ongoing crisis, demonstrated through Russia’s firm and supportive stances, culminating in today’s honourable position. He concluded that this moment will remain etched in the memory of the Sudanese people.
