Sudan Addresses Joint Meeting of AU and EU Ambassadors in Geneva

Geneva – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid Hassan, has addressed the joint consultative meeting of African ambassadors and their counterparts from European Union countries, held on Tuesday at the United Nations Palace in Geneva.

As the African Group’s coordinator on migration, the Ambassador reviewed the priorities and challenges facing the African continent in the areas of migration governance and how to address its root causes.

The ambassador stressed the need to invest in addressing the root causes at their source and supporting capacity building across the continent, in line with the Luanda Summit Declaration.

He pinpointed that this includes a development approach for countries affected by conflict, climate change, and resource scarcity. He noted that solutions to migration issues should not be limited to preventing individual migration, but should focus on supporting sustainable solutions and addressing the underlying drivers through development support, including utilizing the structures of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to achieve these goals.
