Sudan Accuses UAE of Sponsoring Mercenary Forces in Ongoing Conflict

Khartoum- Sudanhorizon,
The Sudanese government has issued a strong statement alleging a major international conspiracy against the state, accusing the United Arab Emirates of sponsoring and financing mercenary forces—including fighters from Colombia and neighbouring countries—who are supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the ongoing conflict that erupted on 15 April 2023.
In a press release issued on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sudan claimed that “hundreds of thousands” of foreign mercenaries have been involved in hostilities against Sudanese forces. The government warned that this trend represents a grave and growing threat to peace and security in both the region and the wider African continent.
“This development imposes a new and dangerous reality that undermines the sovereignty of states, violates their sanctity, and transforms the nature of the war into a transnational terrorist conflict waged by proxy,” the statement read.
The Sudanese authorities say they have submitted documents and evidence to the United Nations Security Council proving the involvement of Colombian fighters and others, allegedly recruited under the direction of the UAE. According to the statement, this information has also been documented by international organisations and investigative media reports.
Calling the situation “a dangerous trajectory,” the Sudanese government urged the international community to take the threat seriously and warned of the consequences if such foreign involvement continues unchecked.
The statement comes amid growing concern over the regional spillover of Sudan’s civil war, which has displaced millions and sparked international debate over the role of external actors in fuelling the violence.
