Spokesperson for Darfur IDPs: Global Silence Over the Humanitarian Catastrophe Is Complicity in Its Continuation
Tawila – Sudanhorizon
The official spokesperson for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in Darfur, Adam Rijal Mursal, renewed his appeal to the international community, international organizations, and world leaders to give greater attention to “the humanitarian catastrophe facing displaced persons and refugees in Darfur and all war-affected areas in Sudan.”
Rijal described global silence in the face of this catastrophe as complicity in its continuation. In a statement, he warned that failure to intervene means leaving millions of people to face the risks of death and hunger on their own.
The spokesperson called on the international community to fully assume its role by providing food, medicine, and shelter for displaced persons, supporting peace efforts, exerting pressure to achieve a ceasefire, protecting civilians, and ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Rijal stressed that what displaced people are facing is not merely a political issue but a humanitarian crisis that concerns the conscience of the world. He called for broad global solidarity and real pressure to end the war and restore normal life.
He noted that the war in Sudan has resulted in a daily humanitarian tragedy affecting millions of civilians, pointing out that millions of children and women lack the most basic necessities of life, while large numbers of civilians have been counted among the victims of the conflict.
