Spokesman: EU Affirms Support for Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Osman Mirghani, spokesman for the Committee for Creating an Enabling Environment for Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue, revealed the outcomes of a meeting held in Cairo last Thursday with seven ambassadors of European Union countries responsible for the Sudan file, as well as the EU Ambassador to Sudan, all based in Cairo.
Mirghani said the meeting lasted several hours and had been arranged in advance to present the committee’s vision and exchange views on ways to benefit from previous international initiatives.
In press statements on Tuesday, he said the committee received a commitment from EU member states to support the principle of Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue under full Sudanese ownership, in addition to supporting the committee responsible for preparing the dialogue. He added that the EU representatives affirmed that resolving the Sudanese crisis can only be achieved through a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue that addresses the various elements of the crisis and reaches common conclusions among the genuine stakeholders.
Mirghani stressed that cooperation with the international community would be limited to technical assistance and the exchange of expertise to prepare for the dialogue and support the post-war nation-building phase, without any influence or tutelage over the dialogue’s agenda, which will remain entirely Sudanese and be developed by Sudanese parties.
He noted that the committee had begun successful international contacts, including a meeting with the Norwegian ambassador in Khartoum, while meetings with the Egyptian and Saudi ambassadors are expected to be arranged in the coming days.
