Sources to Sudanhorizon: Heglig Oilfield Shuts Down After Drone Strike, Three Workers Killed
Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shammam
Reliable sources told Sudanhorizon on Friday that the Heglig oilfield in South Kordofan has ceased operations after it was targeted on Thursday by a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulting in the death of at least three workers and the injury of others.
This marks the third attack of its kind on the oilfield. According to two informed sources, RSF-operated drones had previously bombed the company’s warehouses, destroying them completely and causing massive financial losses.
A source closely connected to the site confirmed that Thursday’s drone strike hit the laboratory building, the largest facility in Heglig. The building consists of two fully equipped floors.
The Ministry of Petroleum has not issued any statement so far regarding the incident, amid reports that workers were moved to the Unity oilfield.
However, other sources indicated that no full evacuation took place; instead, employees were relocated only to the company’s onsite camp.
The Heglig oilfield produces an estimated 40,000 barrels per day.
