The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation said Tuesday that river levels have reached flood stage in six states, warning that levels are expected to continue rising this week despite a decline in the inflow of the Blue Nile.

Most of the earthen barriers built by residents in many areas have collapsed, allowing water to flow into residential neighborhoods, according to posts shared by volunteers and activists on social media.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation said: “River levels have reached flood stage in the states of Blue Nile, Sennar, Gezira, Khartoum, Nile River, and White Nile.”

It noted that the Wad Al-Ais station in Sennar State recorded 17.5 meters, just 15 centimeters below flood stage, while the Wad Madani station in Gezira State measured 19.91 meters—flood stage level.

The Khartoum station reached 17.33 meters, surpassing the 16.50-meter flood stage. The Shendi station registered 17.96 meters, exceeding the 17.60-meter flood stage.

Meanwhile, Atbara station measured 15.66 meters, approaching the flood stage of 15.78 meters, while Merowe station recorded 18.10 meters, still below its 19.22-meter flood stage. Dongola station stood at 14.90 meters, compared to its 15.22-meter flood stage.

The ministry forecasted further rises in water levels along all banks of the Nile this week, noting that the Blue Nile inflow had dropped to 633 million cubic meters, while the Rosieres Dam discharge fell to 540 million cubic meters.

It added that the Sennar Dam discharge had risen to 706 million cubic meters, while the Jebel Aulia Dam exceeded 134 million cubic meters, and the Merowe Dam surpassed 750 million cubic meters.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation urged residents along the Nile banks to take necessary measures to protect their lives and property.
