Restricting WhatsApp Voice and Video Calling Services in Sudan

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

The Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority (TPRA) has issued a notice to all subscribers and users of telecommunications services stating that WhatsApp voice and video calling services will be restricted in Sudan as a precautionary measure against security threats and to preserve national security and the country’s supreme interests, starting next Friday.

The TPRA confirmed that other app services, such as text messaging and group sharing, will remain available as usual without any restrictions. It apologized for any inconvenience this restriction may cause to subscribers and appreciated their understanding in putting the national interest above their personal interests, according to the statement.
