The Khartoum State Traffic Department, under the supervision of Major General of Police Hannai Mohammed Ibrahim, Director of the Khartoum State Traffic Department, and with field follow-up by the Head of the State Traffic Investigations Division, succeeded in dismantling a criminal network specialized in forging official documents. These included vehicle ownership certificates, land sale contracts, and powers of attorney, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect citizens’ rights.
A police press release issued on Monday stated that the details of the seizure stemmed from monitoring a BYD vehicle at the Martyr Lieutenant General of Police Adel Mohammed Abbas Al-Faki Licensing Center in Jabra. Traffic inspection revealed the existence of an electronic report against the vehicle. With the continuation of technical procedures, it was later confirmed that the vehicle was stolen, and upon investigation with the suspect, it was found that its ownership certificate was forged.
The Police Press Office added that, accordingly, a specialized team from the Traffic Investigations Department was formed to follow up on the case. Investigations revealed the presence of a network active in forging ownership certificates and issuing land sale contracts and powers of attorney with backdated dates. It was also discovered that the suspects were exploiting the documents of a law office belonging to a lawyer who passed away two years ago, identified as (A. A. M.), using his seal on forged documents near the Al-Kalakla Al-Laffa Court, in cooperation with the owner of a photocopy shop adjacent to the court identified as (M. A.).
The operation resulted in the seizure of exhibits including a photocopy machine, an embossed seal belonging to the deceased lawyer, 15 forged powers of attorney, 10 sealed powers of attorney ready for forgery, 10 modified vehicle license plates, 2 laptops and one desktop computer, and 20 forged land powers of attorney through which lands were sold to victims from the original owners. Using the same procedures, 8 private vehicles of various types were also seized, for which ownership certificates, sale contracts, and powers of attorney had been prepared for licensing and sale purposes.
The press release concluded by stating that legal action was taken under Articles 21 / 123 of the Criminal Law for “forgery and criminal conspiracy” at the Khartoum North Criminal Police Station, and the necessary legal procedures were initiated against the suspects.
