PM Directs Fivefold Increase in Argeen Border Crossing Budget

Prime Minister Kamil Idris directed that the budget for the Argeen land border crossing be increased fivefold to accommodate the rising number of citizens returning from Egypt.
Idris visited the returning citizens today and reiterated to them that the “Government of Hope” stands firmly with its people.
He also affirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating the voluntary return of citizens without imposing any fees, noting that the directive exempting the personal belongings of voluntary returnees from taxes and customs duties remains in effect.
The Prime Minister pledged to ensure a smooth and easy return process and to provide all necessary assistance and services, welcoming the returning citizens and their contribution to the country’s development and reconstruction.
He reiterated his gratitude to Egypt – its leadership, government, and people – for their generous hosting of millions of Sudanese citizens.
He and his accompanying delegation toured the quarantine facilities at the crossing, as well as the passport, customs, and export terminals, and directed that the complaints of returning citizens be addressed. Returning citizens praised the role of the armed forces and supporting forces and their sacrifices, which made their return to the country a reality.
They noted that this inspection visit had a positive impact on them and confirmed the “Government of Hope’s” concern for its citizens.
Minister of Justice Abdullah Darf explained that the committee for preventing illegal collection had previously visited the crossing, identified violations, and removed them. He stated that there is no illegal collection taking place at the crossing.
The Governor of the Northern State indicated that the voluntary return exceeded expectations and reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting returning citizens until they reach their homes.
The Director General of Police noted that personal belongings are exempt from customs duties and affirmed their readiness to facilitate the voluntary return process.
For his part, the Director of Taxes in the Northern State revealed that an agreement had been reached with relevant authorities to reduce ticket prices by 30% to facilitate voluntary return.
Meanwhile, the Director of Argeen Crossing indicated that the crossing is witnessing an increasing numbers of returning citizens and affirmed the crossing’s readiness to provide all possible assistance to facilitate their voluntary return. For his part, the Egyptian consul pledged to exert every effort to facilitate voluntary return in coordination and cooperation with the Sudanese government.
Meanwhile, the director of the border crossing on the Egyptian side affirmed their commitment to expediting voluntary return procedures and overcoming obstacles, and expressed his gratitude to the Sudanese government for its positive and constructive cooperation.
