Oil and Security Issues Topped 3-Day Talks between S.Sudan FM, Sudanese Counterpart and Senior officials

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, Mande Samaya Kent Kumba, concluded a three-day official visit to Port Sudan, the administrative capital of Sudan, at the invitation of his Sudanese counterpart, Muhieddin Salim Ahmed.
During the 3-day visit, Kumba handed a written message to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Gen Abdel Fattah El-Burhan, from the South Sudanese President, Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Kumba held talks with six senior state officials, including the Vice Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Malik Agar, and Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris.
Oil issues, related technical and security arrangements, the migration status of South Sudanese citizens in Sudan and Sudanese citizens in South Sudan, and security issues related to the security and safety of both countries topped the discussions, according to the joint closing statement of the visit, issued Monday.
The joint statement pointed out that the visit “came within the framework of affirming the solidarity of the government and people of South Sudan with the government and people of Sudan, and to discuss ways to enhance relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including examining the conditions of South Sudanese citizens in Sudan.”
The statement added that the guest and his accompanying delegation discussed with the Vice President of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Malik Agar Ayer, ways to strengthen relations between the two countries in the fields of economy, oil, infrastructure, education, health, and social care.
The statement stressed the importance of exchanging visits and intensifying consultations between officials in both countries. The meeting also emphasized the importance of caring for, protecting, and assisting nationals from of both countries.
The Prime Minister of the Transitional Council, Dr. Kamil Idris, received Minister Mandi, in the presence of the Sudanese Minister of Oil and the Director General of the Police Forces.
Idris affirmed his government’s support for all agreements and programs aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries and caring for, protecting, and assisting the citizens of both countries.
Minister Mande also extended an official invitation, on behalf of the Government of South Sudan, to Sudanese Prime Minister to visit Juba, South Sudan.
The joint discussion session between officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, according to the statement, “reviewed the course of bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields. They agreed to activate the joint committees in the political and security fields and activate them to address the challenges facing both countries. They also agreed to coordinate and consult between the two ministries in regional and international forums, strengthen economic and trade relations, protect and encourage investments, and open up banking windows, protecting the interests of businessmen in both countries, and controlling and regulating movement across border crossings.
During the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan and the Sudanese Minister of Interior, the two sides discussed “the challenges facing the citizens of both countries and agreed on the importance of caring for, protecting, and assisting their nationals.” During his meeting with the Sudanese Minister of Energy and Petroleum, the meeting discussed “the challenges facing the oil and energy sector and agreed to exchange expertise, visits, and consultations to enhance capabilities, increase production, and protect fields and pumping stations.”
Minister Mande discussed with the Director-General of the General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufadel, the security challenges facing the two countries in various fields. They agreed on the importance of the relevant agencies in both countries coordinating, consulting, and exchanging information to overcome the security challenges faced by each side during the current war in Sudan, including the challenges facing their nationals.
