Official Source Reveals Circumstances Behind Appointment of British Envoy to Sudan

An official source revealed to the ” Sudanhorizon” news site the circumstances behind the appointment of British diplomat Richard Crowder as Special Envoy to Sudan. The source indicated that Richard Crowder is the successor to the former ambassador and was transferred and accredited as a regular diplomat since the appointment of a British ambassador to Sudan requires approval and reciprocity and that these procedures naturally take time.
The source added that, given the time required for nomination and accreditation, the British Foreign Office decided to transfer Ambassador Richard Crowder as a regular diplomat and assign him the role of chargé d’affaires.
The source confirmed that naming Richard as a special representative of the British government in Sudan imposes unnecessary additional burdens.
It is noteworthy that the British government had previously cancelled the position of Special Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan, a role it had maintained for years, and currently only retains its envoy to the Horn of Africa.
British diplomat Crowder stated in a video posted on his personal account that he would be heading to Sudan next week to assume his duties as head of the British office in Sudan and representative of his government. He added that he is fully aware of the significant tasks awaiting him “due to the situation in Sudan, the war, and the humanitarian crisis the Sudanese people are suffering from.” He emphasised that he would coordinate with international efforts to end the war and improve access to humanitarian aid for those affected.
