Northern State Governor: $50 Billion Needed to Rebuild Sudan’s Infrastructure

				Cairo – Sabah & Nazik | October 26, 2025
The Governor of Northern State, Brigadier Abdul Rahman Abdel Hamid Ibrahim, has emphasized the importance of establishing a National Reconstruction Fund for Sudan, to be managed with full transparency under joint supervision by the government, civil society, and Sudanese expatriates.
Speaking on Sunday at the opening session of the preparatory workshop for the Second Egypt–Sudan Business Forum in Cairo, the governor revealed that at least $50 billion is required to rehabilitate Sudan’s critical infrastructure, including electricity, water, education, and health services.
He stressed that reconstruction efforts should be based on partnerships between domestic and foreign capital, rather than being led solely by foreign companies.
Calling for unity, the governor urged Sudanese stakeholders to set aside political disputes and focus on rebuilding a new Sudan guided by reason, honesty, and national interest—rather than slogans and emotion.
He added that Sudan cannot recover on its own, describing Egypt as the elder sister and true ally—bound by the Nile, blood, and destiny, and as “a steadfast supporter that never fails Sudan.”
Meanwhile, Mohamed Hassan, representative of the Egyptian-Sudanese Development Company, outlined a reconstruction roadmap based on integrated partnerships between the public and private sectors.
He emphasized that Egypt possesses a robust network of companies capable of forming the backbone of Sudan’s reconstruction, describing it as a rare opportunity to achieve real economic integration between the two nations.
Hassan also underscored the importance of connecting production zones with logistical transport networks, saying this marks the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations—one that moves from slogans to action.
“Egypt and Sudan are on the verge of a new era,” he said, adding,
“Our goal is not only to rebuild Sudan, but to present to the world a living model of Arab–African integration.”
