Nigeria Pledges to Support Sudan in Mobilizing Support from the African Development Bank

Nigeria has pledged to support Sudan’s efforts in mobilizing support from the African Development Bank. A joint meeting between the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, and his Nigerian counterpart, Wale Idun, discussed on Thursday, common positions ahead of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank scheduled to be held in the United States of America this year.

This came on the sidelines of the Sudanese Minister of Finance’s participation in the COCAS conference held in Abuja, Nigeria.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the issue of linking East Africa with West Africa by establishing a railway line extending from Port Sudan to Dakar, noting the importance of this project in enhancing trade between the countries of the region in light of the rise of China and India as global economic hubs.

Dr. Jibril reviewed with Wale Idun Nigeria’s experience in implementing financial federalism, praising the positive results achieved by this experience in strengthening the local economy and organizing financial resources.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to activate trade exchange between the two countries, and activate economic and trade agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation and achieve common interests.

This meeting comes in the context of strengthening economic relations between Sudan and Nigeria, and emphasizing the importance of African cooperation to achieve sustainable development and economic growth on the continent. The COCAS Conference is a regional economic forum that aims to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the countries of the African continent.
