Mostafa Bakri: Egyptian-Sudanese Relations Transcend Any Incident, Investigations Will Reveal the Truth

Cairo – Sudan Horizon – Sabah Musa

Egyptian Member of Parliament and Editor-in-Chief of Al-Osboa newspaper Mostafa Bakri stressed that the incident involving the killing of several Sudanese miners occurred amid highly complex security conditions, at a time when Egypt and Sudan are facing challenges on multiple strategic fronts.

In an exclusive statement to Sudan Horizon, Bakri said that the ties between Egypt and Sudan are far greater than any incident that some parties outside the two countries might seek to exploit. He added that the two countries are united by the Nile River and a shared history. However, overlapping conflict zones and the absence of security control in some areas expose civilians to various risks.

Bakri emphasized the need to allow official investigations and joint coordination between the two countries to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, away from personal conclusions, rumours, and the spread of false information that could harm the interests of the two nations, which share deep-rooted bonds.

He affirmed that the relationship between Egypt and Sudan is not merely a matter of geographical borders or immediate interests, but a fraternal and historic bond rooted in a shared destiny. He stressed that incidents, regardless of their scale, cannot undermine this common future.

Bakri added that Sudanese people living in Egypt are treated with dignity and respect, describing them as an extension of the Egyptian people, just as Egyptians are an extension of the Sudanese people. He noted that Sudanese people also treat Egyptians in Sudan as brothers.

He warned that attempts to drive a wedge between the two peoples and stir up tensions, particularly through social media platforms, seek to exploit the difficult circumstances facing the region to advance schemes targeting both countries.

“For this reason, I say to our brothers and sisters in Sudan and to all Egyptians that wisdom is essential. Exercising the utmost restraint and refusing to be drawn into rumours are necessary,” he said, emphasizing that joint official investigations conducted by the two countries would establish the final findings and reveal the truth about what happened.

Bakri added that the official statement issued by the Egyptian military spokesperson, which affirmed these principles, reflects the fraternal nature of relations between the two countries. He also pointed to statements made by Sudanese leaders during various disputes and crises, saying they had consistently placed the broader relationship above disagreements in pursuit of appropriate solutions.

Expressing confidence that the investigations would produce important findings and present the truth to the peoples of both countries, Bakri extended his greetings to Egyptians and Sudanese alike. He concluded that the coming days would reveal what happened, free from rumours and systematic falsehoods targeting both countries.

“We all know who our common enemy is and who is seeking to sow discord between the two countries,” he said.
