Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The General Directorate of Petroleum Supplies and Trade at the Ministry of Energy has announced plans to carry out technical and administrative inspections of fuel stations to ensure compliance with regulatory and technical requirements for the distribution of petroleum products.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry said the step comes within the context of the gradual resumption of work in Khartoum State and the steady return of citizens.
The Ministry indicated that a technical team comprising representatives from the General Directorate of Petroleum Supplies and Trade, the General Directorate of Petroleum Facilities, the General Directorate of Environment and Safety, the Public Transport and Petroleum Administration, the Economic Security authority, and Civil Defense conducted field visits to service stations to verify their compliance with required standards.
The statement explained that the inspection aims to enhance public safety, ensure quality standards, protect consumers, and improve the efficiency of petroleum product distribution. The process includes reviewing official documents and permits to confirm their validity, verifying that facilities meet approved technical specifications, inspecting fuel storage tanks to ensure technical integrity and absence of leaks, checking calibration of fuel dispensers to ensure measurement accuracy, evaluating electrical systems and connections for safety compliance, and confirming adherence to occupational health and safety procedures.
The inspection team will prepare field and statistical reports to support decision-making and improve service quality. The initiative also includes documenting technical violations and referring them to relevant authorities, as well as identifying stations under maintenance and reviewing their timelines for reopening, in line with the voluntary return of citizens.
