Minister of Energy: We Work under Exceptional Circumstances Requiring Increased Storage Capacity
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, has underlined that his ministry is operating under exceptional circumstances that require increased fuel storage capacity following the targeting of petroleum facilities in the country, particularly storage depots.
During his inspection of the new strategic depots of the Nile Petroleum Company in Port Sudan on Sunday, which are almost finalized, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to retaining its highly qualified personnel and its serious efforts to create a suitable working environment for employees, taking into account the challenging working conditions.
The Director General of the Nile Petroleum Company, Dr. Hisham Taj Al-Sir, has meanwhile explained that they have constructed four new gasoline and diesel storage tanks, each with a capacity of one million liters of fuel, in addition to a fifth tank with a capacity of two million liters of water for firefighting, equipped with a fire station and its accessories, along with a comprehensive safety system.
He added that six horizontal gas storage tanks, each with a capacity of 100 ton gaz, have been installed, and work is underway to add four more tanks, bringing the total capacity to 1,000 tons.
He noted that these new additions offer more loading platforms, resulting in greater flexibility in distribution. It is expected that the storage capacity will reach 10 million liters in the near future, bringing the total capacity of Nile Company’s depots to 14 million cubic meters of fuel.
Last May, Nile Company lost four depots that were destroyed by drones attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces militia in one of the clearest war crimes in Sudan.
